Our man's best friend can benefit greatly from massage therapy especially myofascial release. Just like us, dogs can have tension and dysfunction in their soft tissues. Through manual release, the dog can have an increase of circulation, decrease tension, increased immune response, decrease soreness, alleviate discomfort and more.
From your family dog to your athlete, massage therapy can help increase overall range of motion, decrease potential for injury, decrease spasms and increase/promote healthy soft tissue.
When the body is in a state of dysfunction, it does not limit the dysfunction to a specific area most of the time. Compensation plays a large role, which starts a cascade of over used and tight muscles, soreness, discomfort and change in overall symmetry throughout the body.
As an owner, I preach that you know your animal best - you are with them more than anybody! This owner knew something was not right with her puppy once she got her home. Two surgeries later, they were able to resolve part of this pups problem. The next set of issues appears to be soft tissue related. The picture of the left was before her first session and was her typical sit posture. After one session (hands only) she started to sit and hold this posture (picture on the right) more often. Soft tissue and fascia health are vital and play an enormous role with overall mobility and function. I'm so excited for this pup and her family!
